Our school district spends about $14,500 a year per student. We are in the bottom 10% in academic performance. One might conclude that increasing spending lowers academic performance.

Compared to what? They have had three different testing scenarios in four years. Back when we had "The Iowas", parents and school board members could compare results. At present we have no valid standards to compare.

Those tests have pretty low standards due to the everyone is special syndrome. Just hire a young person for a summer job, you will see firsthand your public education results

We are #36 out of 36 industrialized nations in academic achievement. If colleges did not lower their standards to accommodate uneducated high school graduates, those colleges would simply go out of business. Maine's population is about the same as Phoenix, Arizona. How many colleges does Maine need?
