Cutler calls for socialized medicine in Maine
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler is criticizing a Medicaid expansion report commissioned by the LePage administration.

Cutler told reporters at a news conference Tuesday the so-called Alexander Report contains made-up numbers and that the projections were made to serve a political purpose.

He said the report assumes that Maine's poverty rate will grow at a level far beyond what other government agencies project.

Cutler said he would sign a Democratic bill to accept federal money to expand Medicaid, but he said the long-term goal for Maine would be universal health care.

The report says the expansion under the Affordable Care Act would cost the state $807 million over the first decade, even with the federal government footing the bill for the first three years.

If Cutler says the numbers are 'made up,' he must have the real numbers.

Why is he denying us access to them?

Sounds like he is starting a 'road to socialism' bidding war with Forklift Mikey.

"I can drink Maine prosperous in 3 beers" may be the opening bid.

Isn't Obamacare designed to push us toward universal care everywhere like Canada has?

The Affordable Care Act was allegedly a plan to provide insurance coverage. But the administrative rules make it so hard on the private insurance companies that the incremental result will be to drive them out of business. Thus, allowing government to step in with single-payer. Which was probably the intent all along. Remember, progressives believe in incrementalism as in Chairman Mao's adage, "Two steps forward, one step back."

They believe that, but what they deliver to the people is one step forward and two steps back.

Agreed. Every utterance like this from Cutler will force Michaud to veer left to keep those votes. That will chip from the independents on the right side of the spectrum who might be driven right into LePage's arms as a result.
